This design for a summer cottage in northern Ontario was commissioned by two young families as a holiday home but also a home-base since one of the families lives abroad. Built on a narrow peninsula using conventional wood building methods, we have aimed to provide the ideals of an open and flexible space, which is warm, accommodating and sensitive to site conditions. All circulation is exterior so one must experience nature when moving from one room to another. To this end the plan is organized into two pavilions that share a common floor and roof resulting in one space for dining and recreation, the other for bathing and sleeping.
